Huawei EMUI 9 beta begins for select smartphones

Huawei’s EMUI interface already has 350 million active users. With the new version, EMUI 9, that number is set to grow and the beta phase has just begun.

The first wave of users can already install and try out EMUI 9. The new version of EMUI 9 is supposed to be faster, prettier and more usable than the previous Android customization from Huawei.

It will be a while before the large-scale launch, and the early search for beta testers has come as a bit of surprise. As always, a beta is not the finished software. It is quite possible that not everything is running as it should be for a smartphone that is being used daily.

The beta is limited to a small selection of devices, seven smartphones in total. Four are from Huawei itself, whilst the other three come from its subsidiary brand Honor. These are the smartphones that have been confirmed for the beta phase:

Download and install the beta app

To register to participate in the EMUI 9 beta, you have to download Huawei's beta app as an APK file. Beta spots are limited, so you’ll have to be quick to be among the first to try the new software. It may take a while for the beta project to appear in the app.

We’ll have more coverage about EMUI 9 very soon at AndroidPIT, so stay tuned for that. What do love or hate about EMUI as Android interface? Let us know in the comments.
